Jordan's planning minister meets with MIGA chief


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fakhoury, on Sunday, met with the Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), Keiko Honda.

The meeting touched on steps the government has taken to formulate the kingdom's 2016-2018 executive program. Fakhoury highlighted burdens being borne by Jordan as a result of hosting a massive influx of Syrian refugees.

The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) is an international financial institution which offers political risk insurance and credit enhancement guarantees. MIGA is a member of the World Bank Group and is headquartered in Washington, D.C., United States.

Fakhoury called on the world bank and affiliated bodies to assist Jordan since its the most affected country in the region by the refugees crisis. The minister said classing Jordan as an "upper middle income" country denied the kingdom access to soft financing facilities and tools.

Honda said the agency is committed to increasing its support to Jordan, adding that the agency will target public-private sector projects in areas of renewable energy and infrastructure.
