(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Tharoor said that he had clarified several issues regarding the tragic demise of his wife in a detailed letter he had written to the Delhi Police commissioner the other day.
Breaking his silence since registration of a case of murder by the Delhi police in the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar former federal Minister Shashi Tharoor on Friday pledged full cooperation to the investigating team “to get to the bottom of the case.”
Talking to reporters after discharge from an ayurvedic centre at Guruvayoor in Trichur district the congress leader said that he had clarified several issues regarding the tragic demise of his wife in a detailed letter he had written to the Delhi police commissioner the other day.
He said that he had also sought an immediate opportunity to answer any further questions they have regarding the incident. Tharoor who represents Trivandrum in Kerala in the Lok Sabha constituency said he and his staff were willing to completely cooperate with the police.
Tharoor had alleged an attempt to frame him and his staff in the case in a letter he had written to the Delhi police chief in November last year.
He said that he was concerned about the way probe has been done so far. There shouldn’t be any political pressure or consideration.
The Congress MP said many things being reported about the case are false. He urged that media to show some human decency while reporting in this matter. However he said that he was not ready to engage in any public polemics in the case.
“My silence was described sinister. I had deliberately maintained silence as I did not want to undermine or compromise the ongoing investigation. I wanted the police to do their job professionally” he said adding that the issue had already got so much unwanted public attention and triggered controversy. Tharoor said he was completely taken aback after Delhi police came to the conclusion that his wife was murdered. He said that he was disturbed that the police had taken one year to arrive at this conclusion and pointed out that he had urged the home minister to conduct a speedy investigation.
“We and Sunanda’s family had no reason to believe any fouls play behind the tragic death. Everybody loved Sunanda deeply. Nobody who come close to Sunanda will ever think of doing any harm to her” the Congress MP said.
“I have lost my wife and I have not been able to mourn in peace. I was under stress all these months. I came for the two-week long ayurveda treatment to get relief from the stress. I want Sunanda her family and me get justice in the case.” Tharoor refused to take any questions from media. Newsmen wanted his reaction on the new twist given to the case by his domestic help Narayan Singh through his statement that Tharoor and Sunanda were uncomfortable with each other. According to the statement given by Narain to the investigating team Sunanda was upset with Tharoor’s conduct and behavior and the duo fought on many personal and financial matters.
