(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Secretary General of the Tunisian General Labour Union Housain Abassi said that 18 political parties partaking in national dialogue agreed Friday to hold the upcoming legislative elections before presidential ones.
According to Tunisian Agency African Press (TAP), Abassi said following a dialogue session that most of the parties (12 parties against six) voted for holding the legislative elections before the presidential polls.
Abbasi also commended the parties' commitment to preserve the country's higher interest, adding that "differences on holding elections were settled underlining that the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) and the Independent Higher Authority for the Election (ISIE) will set a definitive date for the legislative elections and then the presidential polls.
"The National Dialogue, sponsored by the Quartet showed once again, that it is perfectly capable to find solutions to all the problems of discord as part of consensus," Abbasi noted.
Earlier, the President of the Independent High Authority for Elections Shafiq Sirsar called, in a press conference, on all political parties to accept reasonability in determining the shape and dates of elections, so that the country does not enter into a dangerous zone with grave consequences.
Sirsar warned against delaying the dates of elections because that would have consequences on the country's economy and stability.
