(MENAFN- Arab Times) The government firmly stands against any attempt to politicise union work by involving the labor and students unions in politics; while inciting them to hold or participate in demonstrations â€" an unlawful act which negatively affects public interests, say sources from the executive authority.
Sources revealed the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has referred a memorandum to the Cabinet, in which it clarified that any public employee who takes part in rallies or strikes must be referred to the judiciary for responding to calls and provocation launched by the members of the nullified Parliament to instigate civil disobedience.
On the other hand, sources disclosed the Popular Labor Bloc and the Islamic Constitutional Movement (ICM) intend to replicate the experience of the Islamic Brotherhood Movement in Egypt and Tunisia, which ended in unrest and division of the society into various groups.
In the meantime, labor and student unions have outrightly rejected calls of civil disobedience launched by the opposition. Around Kuwait University 70 students issued a joint statement to express their objection to any attempt to politicize the student union work, stressing that the action taken by National Union of Kuwaiti Students, which is dominated by the Islamic Brotherhood Movement, does not represent them as students in the university. They asserted the call for the union to organize a sit-in inside the campus on Sunday is against educational principles and values.
Moreover, the 62-member group urged the government, in a press statement Saturday, to take all the legal procedures to prevent public utility societies and unions to interfere in politics and religious issues.
Also, the Doctors Union rejected the calls made by some political blocs for the unions to take part in rallies or gatherings; condemning at the same time the threats launched by some members of the nullified legislature.
On the other hand, MP Safaa Al-Hashim asked HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak to take a decisive step against Justice Ministry Workers Union Chairperson Ahmad Al-Mutairi for the provocative statements he made in a bid to suspend operations of public utilities.
Furthermore, MP Nabil Al-Fadhel asked the State Security Department to arrest Al-Mutairi as he poses a grave threat to the society as reflected in his call for the suspension of operations in public utilities, stressing the government must strictly apply law on the erring unions.
