Abu Dhabi roads and bridges meet best standards


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Department of Transport (DoT) has launched a project to unify road engineering standards across the capital city. The 'Unifying and Standardising of Road Engineering Practices' project will adopt the best international practices for design, construction, operation and maintenance and management of roads and bridges. The project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2013 and a statement from the DoT read: "The new standards are going to be implemented gradually and in phases, starting in the third quarter of 2013, on new projects and on the on-going ones, while delivered projects will have to abide by the standards concerning maintenance and operations." The department also announced the completion of major traffic improvements around Al Mushrif Mall in Al Zafarana area. The project was designed to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety, in order to accommodate traffic density around the area, in addition to increasing the absorptive capacity of road traffic. The project, which commenced in the second quarter of 2011, included the development of three new intersections with traffic lights.
