Zubair and Raisi to make debut at Baja Aragon Teruel

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's Abdullah al Zubair and his co-driver Faisal al Raisi will be making their debut at the world-famous Baja Aragon 2018, a Rally Raid event, which will be held in the Spanish province of Teruel from July 19-22.

The duo will be driving a Can-Am Maverick X3, powered by South Racing.

South Racing will run a total of three Can-Am Maverick X3s that will include two North American teams.

The X3s will be of Dakar Rally-specification and compete in the Spanish national championship event that runs alongside the seventh round of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies.

This will be the first major outing for the Can-Am arm of South Racing since the team's impressive victory at the Merzouga Rally in Morocco in April.

Zubair and Raisi had won round two of the Manateq Qatar National Baja in April.

They will be joined in the punishing heat and dust of central Spain by the women's crew of Christine Giampaoli and Luy Galán and American driver Austin Jones and his Mexican navigator René Hernandez.

The competitive action in the FIA section gets underway with a timed 13.46km super special stage, near Teruel, on Friday evening.

The bulk of the 521.42km of action takes place on revised stages on Saturday and Sunday. There are two selective sections of 227.51km and 154.85km on Saturday and one of 125.60km on Sunday before the podium ceremony in Teruel.

The race will be held for the sixth consecutive year in Teruel in the 35 year old history of Baja Aragon.

The Baja Aragón 2018 will have more than 220 vehicles registered in all the categories together.

In trucks, there will be a total of 12 while there would be around 80 bikers.

In cars, 133 vehicles have been confirmed, among which the presence of the three leaders of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies stands out: Jakub Przygonski, Martin Prokop and Vladimir Vasilyev will all line up for the start.
