Afghanistan- Taliban attack on Faryab's district repelled


(MENAFN- Afghanistan Times) AT-KABUL: Government security forces have repelled Taliban after an overnight attack on Thursday on Khawaja Sabz Posh district, northwestern Faryab province, officials said Friday. District Chief Abdullah Masoumi said the militants attacked the district on Thursday night after they had sneaked into the district market. During the confrontations with the militants, Masoumi said, the security forces killed two Taliban militants and managed to successfully ward off the offensive. The militants entered the district bazaar in the night and faced fierce firefight from the Special Force Unit of the National Directorate of Security (NDS). The clashes left two insurgents including Taliban Commander Haji Amin's brother-in-law were killed and three others injured. The Taliban Commander confirmed the death of one of his fighters and the injury of three others in the overnight clash. He claimed security forces also suffered casualties, but the district chief rejected the claim.
