Qatar- Committee to be set up to study structure of vocational education


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi issued a decision to form a committee to study the structure and organisation of vocational and technical education in Qatar. The committee will be headed by Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi, an under-secretary at the ministry.
The proposed committee will be responsible for developing a strategic plan and general framework for vocational and technical education in pre-university and university stages. It will also study the needs and areas required by the labour market in the field of vocational and technical education. In addition, it will study the mechanism of providing vocational and technical education commensurate with the abilities of people with disabilities and those with artistic and technical talents.
The committee will look into the opportunities and alternatives available to complete the university study for holders of secondary education degrees in this type of education, in addition to any other tasks assigned to the committee by the minister.
According to the decision, the committee shall meet at the invitation of its chairman at least twice a month, and its meetings are considered valid only in the presence of a majority of its members, including the president or his deputy, and to issue its recommendations by a majority vote of the members present, in addition to establish a system of its work, including its headquarters, the dates of its meetings and the rules necessary for the exercise of its functions.
Also, the committee can also draw upon those whom it feels necessary to attend its meetings from the ministry and otherwise, who have the expertise and efficiency to provide advice for the purpose of carrying out its work. It may also set up working groups among its members or others to study any of the topics within its competence.
The committee shall be guided by studies and proposals already prepared on vocational and technical education as well as the experiences of other states in this regard. It shall complete its work within four months of the date of its first meeting and submit to the minister a report on its activities and the results of its work, together with proposals, recommendations, and the mechanism for the implementation of these proposals.
