A 61-year-old Hong Kong man who set up a hidden camera and filmed his maid showering for three months has pleaded guilty to the charges he faced in the Kwun Tong Magistrates Court on Friday.

The man pleaded for leniency on a charge of access to a computer with dishonest intent, Sing Pao reported. The man and his wife live in private residential housing at Oscar By The Sea in Tseung Kwan O in the New Territories.

He hired the domestic worker to take care of his sick wife and it was reported that the man and the maid had a good employment relationship. The court heard that on February 24 last year, the maid found a hidden camera set up behind some detergent bottles in the bathroom when she was taking a shower.

She checked the camera and discovered she was being filmed while bathing and the filming had been going on from December 1, 2016, to February 24, 2017. She took the memory cards from the camera and asked the man if he had installed it in the bathroom.

When confronted, the man refused to confirm he had filmed her and only asked her to return the memory cards. The maid reported the case to police the next day and her employer was arrested.

The man told the court he had compensated the maid and terminated her employment contract. He also told the judge he was ashamed of himself and added that his crime had ruined the reputation of Hong Kong's domestic worker employers.

The magistrate reprimanded him for his offense, which he said involved a breach of trust. He was remanded in custody until March 29 for sentencing.
