Students outrage over Class 12 routine, CBSE says gaps impossible
11 Jan 2018
The CBSE routine for Class 12 board exams has caused outrage among students, parents and teachers. There is not enough gap between many papers, they have complained.
For example, humanities students have psychology on April 5, political science on 6 and legal studies on 7.
But CBSE says it's impossible to ensure enough gaps with 200 subjects. There are other factors too, it says.
The schedule that has got students riled up
Routine
Science students have English on March 5 and Physics on 7, then Mathematics and Computer Science on 21 and 23.
For humanities, it is History on March 20 and Mathematics the next day. Physical education is on April 9, a day after students appear for Legal Studies. The next day is Sociology.
The exams will start on March 5 and end on April 12.
At least one-day gap necessary, if not two, says principal
Reax
"Don't play with the career of Humanities students! CBSE give gap please! Humanities students, 4 papers in 5 days. Disheartening as all the major papers are subjective 7 lengthy!(sic)," Sanjeev Saxena tweeted.
Ashok Pandey, the principal of Delhi's Ahlcon International School, agreed. "Personally, I think two days should be the minimum break, but at least one is necessary."
200 subjects to arrange, plus competitive exams in April: CBSE
CBSE
CBSE says the routine has been decided based on several factors, including competitive exams. The JEE is scheduled on April 8, a day before Physical Education.
Moreover, with students taking up different combinations from among 200 subjects, sometimes even across streams, it wasn't possible to ensure gaps between all exams.
11.86L students are appearing for the Class 12 exams this time.
