Oman, India discuss strategic partnerships in culture, tourism


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Dr Mahesh Sharma, India's Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture who was in Oman interacted with a number high-ranking dignitaries.

Dr Sharma held a brief meeting with H H Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers of Oman, with focus on expanding the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Dr Sharma who is also the Minister of State in the Ministry of Climate Change, Forest and Environment was in the sultanate for the UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture held on December 11 and 12. During his visit, Dr Sharma also held discussions on cooperation between India and Oman in fields of culture and tourism.

He met H H Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture and H E Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism. Dr Sharma also met the Indian community in Oman at the embassy on Tuesday. He said, 'The Indian community in Oman has contributed a lot in many sectors and Oman has always been supportive of the people of India. With as many as 25 social clubs in the sultanate Indians are putting in their best foot forward.'

Several suggestions by the Indian community were heard. Some of the issues raised included voting rights for NRIs, a pension scheme for the blue collared workers and special fee structure for NRI students.
