Apple intends to use drones to improve Maps App

(MENAFN) Bloomberg News quoted sources saying that Apple is planning to use drones and new indoor navigation features to improve its Maps App, in order to compete with longtime leader Google.

Also, Apple had been assembling a team of experts in robots and data-collection who will use drones to quickly capture and update map information, and this would be major upgrade to its existing fleet of camera-and-sensor ladened minivans.

On the contrary, Apple had acquired startup indoor.io, in order to compete with Google Map's similar indoor view features and to help build out the new feature for its own app and catch Google.

Accordingly, Apple had approved for the Federal Aviation Administration to: "operate an unmanned aircraft system to conduct data collection, photography, and videography."
