U.S. Greenlights Package of Arms Sales to Three Gulf Nations

(MENAFN) The US Department of State greenlit a sweeping package of military sales to three Gulf nations on Friday, totalling more than $7.6 billion amid heightened regional tensions following the outbreak of US-Israeli strikes against Iran.

Qatar secured the largest share of the package, with Washington approving the possible sale of Patriot Air and Missile Defense replenishment services and related equipment worth $4.01 billion. A second deal authorised the potential transfer of Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) munitions to Doha valued at $992 million.

The UAE was also cleared to receive APKWS systems under a separate transaction worth $147.6 million, while Kuwait received approval for the possible acquisition of an Integrated Battle Command System at a cost of $2.5 billion.

The announcements land at a pivotal moment for Gulf security. Since US and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes against Iran on February 28, Tehran has retaliated against American allies across the Gulf and moved to shut down the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz — a chokepoint through which roughly a fifth of the world's oil supply flows — sending regional defence procurement into overdrive.
