Jordan Line Up Global Tests Ahead Of 2026 World Cup Debut
Jordan secured qualification for their first-ever World Cup after finishing runners-up in Group B of the AFC third-round qualifiers, a milestone that united the Kingdom in celebration and anticipation.
Attention has now shifted to ensuring the squad are fully prepared to compete against some of the world's strongest sides.
At the World Cup draw, Jordan were placed in Group J alongside defending champions Argentina, Algeria and Austria.
Jordan will open their campaign on June 16 against Austria in Santa Clara, before facing Algeria on June 22 at the same venue. Their final group-stage fixture will be against Argentina on June 27 in Kansas City.
Progressing from the group will require resilience, tactical discipline and belief, with Jordan currently ranked 66th in the world and set to face significantly higher-ranked opposition.
To bridge that gap, the Jordan Football Association has arranged a diverse set of friendlies against teams from four different confederations, matches designed to replicate the tactical and physical demands awaiting Al Nashama in North America.
Jordan begin their preparations at home on March 27 against the Costa Rica national football team at King Abdullah II Stadium in Amman. Ranked 50th globally, the CONCACAF side are known for their defensive organisation and swift counter-attacking play.
The encounter offers Jordan an opportunity to build rhythm and sharpen defensive cohesion on familiar ground.
Four days later, they face Nigeria at Amman International Stadium. Ranked 26th in the world and maintained by a strong recent continental campaign, Nigeria bring pace, power and attacking flair. The fixture is expected to test Jordan's midfield stability and physical resilience.
On May 31, Jordan travel to St Gallen to meet Switzerland. The European side's tactical discipline and structured approach mirror aspects of Austria's style, making the match particularly significant from a strategic standpoint.
Competing away from home will also help Jordan adapt to different conditions and higher-intensity opposition.
The final warm-up match comes on June 7 at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego against Colombia.
Colombia's technical quality and attacking dynamism present a challenge comparable to that posed by Argentina. With only days separating the fixture from the World Cup opener, it will serve as a crucial opportunity to fine-tune tactics and assess match readiness.
Jordan have demonstrated marked progress in recent years, highlighted by their runners-up finish at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. The squad combines defensive organisation with growing attacking confidence, led by winger Musa Taamari, whose creativity and pace remain central to the team's ambitions.
These carefully selected friendlies reflect a clear strategic approach: exposing the players to diverse playing styles, building mental toughness and refining tactical execution.
For Al Nashama, the road to 2026 is not merely about participation, it is about proving that Jordan can compete with the world's elite and represent the Kingdom with distinction on football's biggest stage.
