Gulf Group At UN Extols Constructive Response To UN80

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, Nov 22 (KUNA) -- The Gulf Group at the United Nations (UN) said that member states' constructive response would certainly play a pivotal role in the success of the UN80 Initiative.
This came in a statement read out by Second Secretary of Kuwait's Permanent Delegation to the UN Jassem Al-Amri on behalf of the Gulf Group during a UN General Assembly meeting on the UN80 Initiative action plan.
Al-Amri considered the plan a "significant document" that provides transparency and clarity regarding the general coordination framework of the initiative, pointing out various supervisory levels as part of the plant designed to ensure consistency, comprehensiveness and accountability at all levels in a way that beefs up UN efficiency.
He said the Gulf Group looks forward to receiving clarifications about how to differentiate between decisions made by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and resolutions taken within international governmental considerations.
The Kuwaiti diplomat hoped that the member states would come up with a prior clear-cut timetable to ensure enough time for preparations, emphasizing that any measure pertinent to holistic overtures for regional initiatives and integrated regional platforms and restructuring of UN regional teams should be subject to the mandate of member states.
The UN80 initiative is the United Nations' ambitious, system-wide reform effort, launched by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in March 2025 as the UN marks its 80th anniversary.
In resolution 79/318, adopted on 18 July 2025, the General Assembly welcomed the Secretary-General's efforts and looked forward to receiving relevant proposals. (end)
