Kabul-Gardez Highway's Reconstruction Begins
PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Reconstruction of a 76-kilometer portion of the Kabul-Gardez highway has been launched at a cost of about 17 million afghanis, local officials in central Logar province said on Tuesday.
Logar Public Works Director Maulvi Janat Gul Siraj told a ceremony in Pul-e-Alam that the Kabul-Gardez highway's construction project would be completed and put into use in the next three months.
He added that the Ministry of Public Works had reconstructed various roads in Logar province over the past three years and would pay special attention to the reconstruction of roads in the coming new year as well.
Meanwhile, Logar Deputy Governor Maulvi Mohammad Anwar Dinparwar said that the Kabul-Gardez highway connects the provinces of the southeastern zone with the capital Kabu.
He said the highway's reconstruction would faciliate drivers and passengers of Paktia, Paktika, and Khost provinces in addition to Logar.
Dinparwar called on the contractor to reconstruct the highway in a basic and standard manner and also asked the Public Works Department to inspect the project from time to time.
A tribal elder from Logar, Haji Abdul Rahman Tawakli, said that the residents of the province strongly support the implementation of the project and asked the government to repair the damaged and rough roads in the provincial capital, Pul-i-Alam, and the districts.
