Turkish Watchdog Fines Adidas

(MENAFN) The Turkish Competition Board has levied a financial penalty of 402.3 million Turkish lira (around $9.6 million) on the global sportswear company Adidas, as revealed in an official announcement made on Friday.

According to the competition authority, an inquiry was initiated following claims that Adidas was involved in manipulating the resale pricing strategies of its licensed vendors within Türkiye.

The investigation uncovered that Adidas had a hand in setting the allowed discount percentages for its authorized sellers.

Additionally, the company was found to be dictating which merchandise could be discounted and during which timeframes the discounts were permissible, the statement explained.

“Interference in authorized retailers’ pricing policies, especially on online storefronts, constitutes a violation of the Law on the Protection of Competition,” the authority stated.
