Palestine Welcomes Belgium's Decision To Recognize Palestinian State

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, Sept 2 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed on Tuesday the announcement by Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxime Prevost, of his country's intention to recognize the State of Palestine during the United Nations session.
In a statement, the ministry said Belgium's stance is consistent with international law and UN resolutions, and safeguarding the two-state solution in support of achieving peace.
The ministry called on countries that have not yet recognized Palestine "to move quickly to announce their recognition, intensify practical efforts to stop the crimes of genocide, displacement, starvation, and annexation, and open a genuine political path to resolve the conflict and end the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine."
French President Emmanuel Macron announced at the end of July that France would recognize Palestine during this month's UN meeting, after which several other countries signaled their intention to do the same. (end)
