Deadline Passed, Returns Surge As 4,897 Afghans Head Home Via Torkham
The repatriation of Afghan nationals through the Torkham border has gained momentum as the return deadline approaches.
Official data shows that 4,897 Afghans crossed back into Afghanistan yesterday, including 4,739 who opted for voluntary return and 158 who were forcibly deported.
Among the returnees were 4,015 POR (Proof of Registration) cardholders, 108 ACC (Afghan Citizen Card) holders, and 616 undocumented individuals, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Adviser Ehtesham Ali announced special health arrangements for Afghan refugees during their repatriation and directed the establishment of a medical camp in Khyber district.
He said a large number of returnees, including women, children, and the elderly, are currently present from Ali Masjid to the Afghan border.“Ensuring their health and safety during the repatriation process is the government's responsibility,” he added.
The health department will set up a medical camp today, equipped with medicines and essential facilities. The adviser reiterated that the department is committed to providing every possible service to Afghan nationals and will remain active on the ground.
Since September 17, 2023, a total of 687,283 Afghans have returned to their homeland from Pakistan, according to official figures.
