WeChat Implements New AI Content Labeling Rules
(MENAFN) Chinese digital communication giant WeChat declared on Sunday that it will begin applying both clear and subtle labels to content produced using artificial intelligence (AI).
This new strategy is part of the platform’s broader commitment to increase transparency, reinforce credibility, and promote a secure and responsible online space.
As reported by a news agency, the primary objective of this policy is to enhance how users identify AI-generated material.
By introducing a system of visible and hidden indicators, WeChat seeks to ensure that all forms of AI-created content—including text, visuals, sound, video clips, and digitally simulated environments—are properly flagged.
Beginning Monday, all social media profiles on the platform must clearly mark AI-derived content with these new labels.
This update was announced by Shanhu, the official account responsible for monitoring content safety on WeChat.
The goal is to help audiences easily recognize when they are viewing or interacting with media that has been produced using AI technology.
The platform further stressed the importance of voluntary disclosure. Users are expected to truthfully indicate when they share synthetic or AI-generated material.
The guidelines also strictly forbid the removal, modification, or hiding of any AI-related tags once applied to a post.
Moreover, WeChat issued a caution against employing AI tools for distributing misinformation, unlawful content, or participating in any conduct that breaches established rules.
