Biblical Window: Social Media Erupts As Liverpool Seal Record Transfer For Alexander Isak From Newcastle
Liverpool have agreed a £125million deal with Newcastle for Alexander Isak and the striker will complete his move on deadline day.
Talks accelerated on Sunday night and an agreement between the clubs is now in place, with the Swede due on Merseyside on Monday morning ahead of signing a six-year contract.
Sources close to Newcastle say the overall deal will be worth £130m to them and the sale has been sanctioned by the club's Saudi owners.
The Magpies had been open to exploring his exit all summer, after Isak made it clear at the end of last season that he wanted to leave.
However, as a club statement a fortnight ago revealed, their 'conditions of sale' had not been met - those being an acceptable offer from Liverpool and Isak's replacements secured.
Newcastle hoped they could persuade the Swede to stay at St James' Park but, after a senior delegation from the ownership visited his house last Monday and made a final plea, there was an acceptance that would not be possible.
Isak told co-owner Jamie Reuben and PIF chiefs that he would remain on strike and wanted to go.
Talks had been taking place in the back channels all week geared towards his exit, with the player's agent Vlado Lemic heavily involved. And late on Sunday evening a package was agreed between the clubs.
Newcastle have signed Germany striker Nick Woltemade for a club-record £69million and are still hopeful of adding Yoane Wissa, but Brentford's asking price of £65m is prohibitive as it stands.
Liverpool have secured a dramatic £125 million deal to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle, with the Swedish striker set to complete his transfer on deadline day. Negotiations gathered momentum late Sunday, culminating in an agreement that will see Isak arrive on Merseyside this Monday to finalize a six-year contract.
Isak's Departure from Newcastle
According to those close to Newcastle, the total package could be worth up to £130 million, and the green light for Isak's sale came directly from the club's Saudi ownership. Isak had made his desire to leave clear after last season, leaving Newcastle open to offers throughout the summer. The Tyneside club, however, publicly stated two weeks ago that their“conditions of sale” had not yet been fulfilled-these specifically included an acceptable bid from Liverpool as well as securing suitable replacements for Isak.
Final Negotiations
Despite Newcastle's hopes of convincing Isak to remain, those efforts proved unfruitful. Senior club representatives, including co-owner Jamie Reuben and executives from the Public Investment Fund, even visited Isak's home last Monday to make a personal appeal. Isak, who had been on strike, reiterated his determination to depart. In the background, discussions persisted-spearheaded by Isak's agent, Vlado Lemic-until both clubs struck a deal late on Sunday.
Replacement Plans
Meanwhile, Newcastle moved swiftly to address their attacking options, signing German striker Nick Woltemade for a club-record £69 million. They remain interested in adding Yoane Wissa from Brentford, but the West London club's £65 million valuation has proven to be a stumbling block so far.
