US school shooting claims lives of three, more than dozen injured
(MENAFN) A tragic shooting at a Catholic school in south Minneapolis on Wednesday has left three people dead, including two children, and more than a dozen others injured, according to ABC News.
The attack occurred during a mass at Annunciation Catholic School, which educates students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. According to police, the shooter, believed to be a man in his early 20s, began firing a rifle through the church windows. He was reportedly armed with a rifle, a handgun, and a pistol.
Two children, aged 8 and 10, were killed in the attack. Authorities believe the suspect later took his own life, and confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public. However, officials have urged residents to stay away from the area as the investigation continues.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated he has been fully briefed on the situation and confirmed the FBI's involvement. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also responded, expressing his support for the affected school community and offering prayers for the children and staff impacted by what he called a “horrific act of violence.” He noted that state and federal agencies, including the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are present at the scene.
The nonprofit Gun Violence Archive reports that this incident is part of a growing national crisis, with at least 287 mass shootings and over 240 deaths recorded across the U.S. so far this year.
