Magnitude Six Earthquake Jolt Parts Of Pakistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Aug 31 (KUNA) -- A powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.0 jolted several parts of Pakistan, including the federal capital Islamabad, in the early hours of Monday.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that the quake hit with a magnitude of 6.0 with its epicenter in southeastern Afghanistan.
The tremors were recorded 15 kilometers below the surface in the Hindu Kush Mountains.
Tremors were felt in Peshawar, Mardan, Murree, Chakwal, Taxila, Wah Cantt, Hangu, Malakand, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Lahore and Islamabad cities.
The strong jolting spread panic among people causing them to rush out of homes and offices. No damage to properties or casualties have been reported so far. (end) sbk
