OIC plans to have meeting to talk about Israel’s genocide of Palestinians
(MENAFN) The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) announced it will convene an emergency meeting on Tuesday to address Israel’s ongoing genocide against Palestinians, amid escalating violence and a worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement released Monday, the Jeddah-based pan-Islamic body said the session will be held at the level of permanent representatives. The focus will be on “the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and the targeting of holy sites in the occupied Palestinian territory, particularly the Ibrahimi Mosque in Al-Khalil (Hebron).”
The OIC emphasized that the meeting comes at a time of “unprecedented humanitarian crisis” in Gaza, citing alleged acts of genocide, forced displacement, and starvation. It also condemned what it described as increased attacks on Islamic places of worship.
Separately, the Palestinian mission to the Arab League has called for an urgent meeting of its Council, also scheduled for Tuesday, to discuss the “catastrophic” humanitarian conditions in Gaza. According to Palestinian Ambassador Muhannad Al-Aklouk, the meeting will focus on Israel’s violations in both Gaza and the occupied West Bank, especially concerning religious sites.
The Arab League later confirmed it will hold the emergency session at the level of permanent delegates but did not provide further details.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian toll in Gaza continues to mount. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that at least 18 people died from starvation in the past 24 hours alone. Since the outbreak of the genocide on October 7, 2023, more than 59,000 Palestinians — mostly women and children — have reportedly been killed, as Israel maintains a relentless military campaign despite international calls for a ceasefire.
The siege has devastated Gaza’s infrastructure, caused widespread hunger, and triggered the rapid spread of disease, raising urgent alarms across the global community.
