Russian mufti exposes Simpsons conspiracy concept

(MENAFN) A senior Muslim cleric in Russia has suggested that The Simpsons is not merely predicting future events but is instead being used as a tool to shape public opinion. Mufti Aynur Birgalin, chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims in Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic, recently went viral after a sermon clip surfaced online.

Speaking to a gathering in Ufa, Birgalin pointed to instances where the long-running animated show seemed to foreshadow real-life events, such as pandemics. While fans have long joked about the show's uncanny ability to "predict" historical moments—including Donald Trump’s presidency—Birgalin argued that this is no coincidence.

In an interview with Gazeta.ru, the cleric claimed that hidden forces deliberately use pop culture to condition audiences and test societal reactions. He extended this theory to other media, citing the TV series Madam Secretary, which aired from 2015 to 2016, and featured a Ukrainian character named "Zelinsky." Birgalin noted the similarity to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who was elected in 2019, suggesting this was part of a pre-planned narrative rather than chance.

“This is not a joke or mere coincidence,” he asserted. “It is a serious signal that should make us think.”

Meanwhile, The Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman addressed such theories in 2024, telling People magazine that with enough content over time, some storylines are bound to align with reality.
