Türkiye’s BIST 100 surges on Thursday open despite currency fluctuations

(MENAFN) Türkiye's benchmark stock index opened Thursday at 10,095.36 points, showing a slight increase of 0.18 percent, or 18.38 points, from the previous day’s closing. This marks a positive start to the day for Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index, following a small decline on Wednesday. The index had dropped by 0.44 percent to close at 10,076.99 points, with a total transaction volume of 102 billion liras, equivalent to approximately USD2.85 billion.
At the opening on Thursday, the Turkish lira continued to face pressure, with the USD/TRY exchange rate standing at 35.7915 as of 9:55 am local time (0655GMT). Meanwhile, the EUR/TRY rate was recorded at 37.2750, and the GBP/TRY was trading at 44.5255. These rates reflect the ongoing fluctuations in the Turkish currency amidst broader economic conditions.
In the commodity markets, gold saw a slight decrease in price, with one ounce priced at USD2,762.50. On the other hand, Brent crude oil traded at around USD75.55 per barrel, continuing the trend of relatively stable prices in the energy sector.
Overall, the Turkish economy is navigating mixed market signals, with slight gains in the stock market contrasting with currency fluctuations and commodity price movements.
