JEDDAH, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Taha on Wednesday welcomed the U.S.-facilitated ceasefire in Lebanon, which took effect in the early hours of Wednesday.
In a press statement, he called on all parties involved to stick to the deal by means of putting UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution 1701 in place.
He reiterated the Jeddah-based Islamic bloc's utter support to Lebanon's stability and sovereignty, while calling for providing necessary humanitarian aid to the affected people, refugees' home-return and reconstruction.
The OIC chief hoped that this agreement would be a step towards an immediate cessation of the Israeli occupation aggression on the Gaza Strip and all occupied Palestinian territories.
U.S. President Joe Biden said late Tuesday that Lebanon and the Israeli occupation had accepted a U.S. proposal to end "the devastating conflict" in Lebanon.
Under the deal, the fighting across the Lebanese border will end, and this ceasefire is designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities.
The ceasefire in Lebanon came into effect early Wednesday. (end)
