BRICS+ Information, Cultural Media Center officially starts in Russia

(MENAFN) The BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Center officially opened in Moscow on Tuesday, ahead of an upcoming leaders’ summit. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, TV BRICS Director General Zhanna Tolstikova, and Library of Foreign Literature Director General Pavel Kuzmin, alongside various media representatives from different countries. The center aims to foster global dialogue and collaboration in cultural, humanitarian, scientific, and educational fields.

During the opening, Zakharova emphasized that the establishment of the center represents a significant step towards enhancing humanitarian cooperation among BRICS countries and beyond. She expressed optimism that the center would facilitate cultural integration and offer the global community trustworthy information, particularly in combating the spread of fake news.

Kuzmin highlighted that future events at the center would focus on uncovering and celebrating the shared traditions and cultures among BRICS members. He stressed that this initiative serves as an effective countermeasure against ongoing efforts to sow division and incite conflict globally through disinformation and fake news.

In a panel discussion, Anadolu Agency's Moscow Bureau Chief Ali Cura addressed the divisive impact of new media technologies, particularly on social networks, which contribute to the spread of disinformation and discrimination. He explained that the responsibility for addressing false news largely falls on the media. To combat these issues, Anadolu Agency has implemented initiatives such as a "discrimination hotline" and a "confirmation hotline" to address racial discrimination, gender inequality, and other forms of hate speech. Cura noted that the BRICS media's work could help establish a diverse and objective media platform that values multiculturalism.
