BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 5. Azerbaijan as
COP29 chair and Brazil as COP30 chair are closely cooperating on
the issue of“nationally determined contributions” (NDCs), a key
element of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, Azerbaijani
Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said at the G20 Ministerial
Meeting on energy Transition in Brazil, Trend
reports via the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy.
The NDCs reflect country-specific efforts to reduce greenhouse
gas and other emissions and efforts to adapt to the effects of
climate change.
The NDCs are to be presented in the first quarter of 2025 in
Brazil.
Shahbazov noted that high-level G20 events play an important
role in climate action and will influence the results of the
upcoming COP29 in Baku.
“At COP29, priorities will include agreeing on a new collective
quantitative goal (NCQG) to meet the growing climate finance needs
of developing countries. Also among the issues is the development
of efficient carbon markets,” the minister added.
He highlighted Azerbaijan's own initiatives at COP29 -“Green
Energy Zones and Corridors”,“Global Energy Storage and Grids” and
“Hydrogen Declaration”, which will accelerate the energy transition
in the world.
“Energy transition is a process and a commitment that requires
individual and collective efforts. Azerbaijan is fully committed to
inclusiveness to facilitate the global energy transition and is
ready to work with all stakeholders to ensure a successful outcome
at COP29,” the minister emphasized.
