African Fashion Council Hosts Designer Showcase At New York Fashion Week

(MENAFN- ACCESSWIRE) NEW YORK CITY, NY / ACCESSWIRE / August 22, 2024 / The African fashion Council (AFC) Showcase at New York Fashion Week on September 11th will feature the 2024 Jaguar South Africa x GiveHerACrown designers. Five exceptional South African designers have an opportunity to highlight their unique artistry to an international audience. As South Africa commemorates 30 years of freedom, this year's partnership carries profound significance. The initiative also has the support of the South African Consulate-General, who will graciously host a welcome mixer for the press on September 6th, marking this milestone with a celebration of unity and collaboration.

The GiveHerACrown initiative, led by Change Collective Africa, is a female empowerment platform that amplifies the voices of women by harnessing the power of the arts to make a difference in the lives of individuals and society. Since its inception in 2020, Jaguar South Africa has proudly supported the GiveHerACrown initiative. To date, the luxury vehicle brand has empowered 20 female creatives, contributing to their professional development and championing their growth in the industry.

The 2024 campaign themed, "Shifting Perspectives", nudges the observer into new realms of thought and acts as a catalyst to redefine boundaries.

The AFC Showcase, of the Jaguar South Africa x GiveHerACrown designers, presents a dynamic display of talent. Guests will be treated to the visionary work of five outstanding designers: Gugu Peten, founder of Gugubygugu, a progressive streetwear brand known for pushing creative boundaries; Tsakani Mashaba, whose brand HAMETHOP celebrates the rich diversity of African art; and Thando Ntuli, whose label MUNKUS embodies her commitment to empowering women. The showcase also highlights Manthe Ribane, a multi-dimensional artist who blends music, performance, and design through her brand, and Keneilwe Mothoa, the innovative interior and fashion designer behind Neimil, celebrated for her pioneering visual concepts.

Curated by multidisciplinary artist and fashion designer Chuks Collins, Co-Founder of the African Fashion Council , this event seeks to amplify the voices of African creatives through a meaningful philanthropic partnership. Part of the mission of the non-profit organization is to open doors for other African designers, providing them with educational exposure and fostering economic prosperity through fashion. Participating designers will also benefit from design Masterclasses at Berkeley College, where Chuks Collins (AFC member), currently serves as a designer-in-residence.

The GiveHerACrown initiative is dedicated to amplifying the stories of the next generation of artists while supporting female creatives to foster positive change. The organization shares values with the African Fashion Council's directive and the luxury car company known for pioneering technologies and visionary design. The platform was officially launched in August 2020 to inspire and celebrate the strength and resilience of women across Africa and to create real societal change.
