Biden, Netanyahu discuss ceasefire, regional issues amid ongoing health, political developments

(MENAFN) US President Joe Biden is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Thursday, according to a US official. Despite being affected by Covid-19 since last Wednesday, Biden is expected to return to Washington later today from his residence in Delaware. Netanyahu is set to address a joint session of the US congress on Wednesday, which will precede his meeting with Biden.

The discussions between Biden and Netanyahu are anticipated to focus on achieving a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Gaza, as well as addressing issues related to Iran and other regional concerns. In addition, Vice President Kamala Harris will hold a separate meeting with Netanyahu this week. A Harris aide mentioned that the Vice President will emphasize the need for a resolution in Gaza that ensures Israel's safety, secures the release of all hostages, alleviates the suffering of Palestinian civilians, and upholds the rights of the Palestinian people to dignity, freedom, and self-determination.
