China accommodates 3.92M 5G base stations

(MENAFN) By the end of June, China had nearly 3.92 million 5G base stations, reflecting data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information technology on Tuesday. This figure represents a substantial net increase of 540,000 5G base stations from the end of the previous year, accounting for 33 percent of the total mobile base stations nationwide.

In tandem with the rise in 5G infrastructure, the number of 5G mobile subscribers in China saw a significant increase. The country added 105 million new 5G subscribers since the end of last year, bringing the total to 927 million by the end of June. These subscribers now make up 52.4 percent of the total mobile subscribers across China's three major telecommunication enterprises—China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom—as well as China Broadnet. The combined subscriber base of these entities stood at nearly 1.78 billion by the end of June.

China's rapid development and commercialization of its 5G network have been remarkable in recent years. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology noted that the 5G network now extends to every city and town, and more than 90 percent of the country's villages. This widespread coverage has been achieved in just five years since the issuance of the first batch of 5G licenses for commercial use.

5G technology in China has been widely integrated into various sectors, including industry, power, mining, healthcare, and education, facilitating large-scale promotion and application. The country has established 300 5G factories and initiated over 13,000 projects under the "5G plus industrial internet" framework.

The economic impact of 5G commercialization has been profound. According to the ministry, the 5G rollout has directly spurred an economic output of approximately 5.6 trillion yuan (about 785 billion U.S. dollars) over the past five years.

Looking ahead, China plans to continue advancing its 5G development. The government aims to expand 5G network coverage to additional locations, including cultural and tourism sites, healthcare facilities, universities, transportation hubs, and subway systems, ensuring that the benefits of 5G technology reach even more sectors and regions across the country.
