Russia reacts positively to Zelenskiy's openness to negotiations amid current conflict

(MENAFN) Russia responded positively to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent comments suggesting a willingness to engage in negotiations to resolve the ongoing conflict. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed approval, indicating that Zelensky's readiness to discuss dialogue is preferable to previous statements that excluded any form of contact with the Russian leadership. Peskov noted that expressing a willingness to negotiate, even if indirectly, is more constructive than maintaining a stance of continued resistance.

In an interview with the BBC, Zelensky indicated his openness to discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite earlier rejecting the idea. Zelensky emphasized that his willingness to negotiate with Russian representatives remains unchanged and is focused on a new peace summit. However, Peskov remarked that further clarification is needed regarding the specifics of Zelensky's recent statements.

Meanwhile, the conflict on the ground persists. The Russian Defense Ministry reported significant military activities, including the destruction of a Ukrainian B-18 air target radar and ongoing operations targeting Ukrainian manpower and equipment in various regions, such as Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia. According to the ministry, Russian forces inflicted substantial losses on Ukrainian troops and equipment while repelling counterattacks. Additionally, Russian air defenses claimed to have shot down multiple US-made missiles and drones.

In a related development, Ukraine has reportedly claimed responsibility for a drone attack on a refinery in Tuapse, located in southwestern Russia. The attack, which resulted in a fire, underscores the continued volatility and escalation in the region.
