BRICS Nations Back Plan For Joint Geological Platform

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Representatives of BRICS nations have endorsed the creation of a shared platform to boost geological cooperation, according to a statement released Monday.

The proposal, outlined by Evgeny Petrov, head of Russia's federal Agency for Subsoil Use (Rosnedra), was met with support at a three-day round table of geological services held in Moscow, TV BRICS reported .

“I am sure that in the conditions of the new economy, such dense interaction will become the basis for the development of joint geological programmes and will help to intensify the exchange of knowledge, methodology, and experience,” Petrov said.

The platform is designed to facilitate knowledge sharing, technological advancements, and collaborative projects among BRICS members. Its structure includes a coordinating council, a commission for joint ventures, a technology transfer council, a working group on critical minerals, an expert panel, and specialized agencies.

Potential areas of cooperation include geological exploration, regional geological studies, and strategic minerals. Digitalization in geology will also be a key focus.

The round table, held from July 15 to 17, brought together geological service heads from Russia, South Africa, China, India, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Brazil, Ethiopia, and Iran. Participants discussed resource supply and processing and proposed creating a unified map of mineral reserves.

The event featured industry presentations, bilateral meetings, and negotiations between China, Ethiopia, South Africa, and India. It was organized by Rosnedra with support from the Digital Subsoil Use non-profit.
