Iran expresses readiness to supply oil, gas to BRICS member states to meet their demands

(MENAFN) A senior Iranian lawmaker has announced that Iran is ready to supply oil and gas to BRICS member states to meet their energy needs, according to an Iranian news agency. Rouhollah Mousavi, a member of the Iranian Parliament's Internal Affairs and Councils Commission, who visited Russia for a BRICS parliamentary forum, told the news agency that Iran could trade oil and gas with BRICS countries in exchange for banking and trade services.

During the two-day visit led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Iranian delegation engaged with representatives from other BRICS nations. Mousavi highlighted their discussions on enhancing banking and trade exchanges within BRICS and promoting the de-dollarization of economic transactions. He emphasized that Iran's membership in BRICS would be beneficial for both Iran and other emerging economies in the group.

Mousavi detailed that Iran's vast energy resources could supply oil and gas to BRICS countries, while other members could support Iran's needs in banking and trade sectors. He pointed out that BRICS nations, which represent 40 percent of the world’s population, 30 percent of global GDP, and 17 percent of global exports, play a crucial role in the global economy.

Additionally, in late June, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Alireza Mohajer, expressed Iran's willingness to collaborate with BRICS countries in the agricultural sector during the 14th BRICS ministers of agriculture meeting in Russia. Mohajer highlighted Iran’s strategic location at the crossroads of major transit routes, emphasizing its potential to enhance regional and international agricultural trade networks.
