First Assisted Suicide Capsule To Be Used Soon In Switzerland

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) An organization known as Last Resort, renowned for its involvement in assisted suicide, has recently announced that the Sarco capsule will soon be made available to applicants.

Sarco is a coffin-like device that, upon pressing a button inside, replaces oxygen with nitrogen gas, allowing individuals to have a painless, quick, and unassisted death.

According to a report by Agence France-Presse, Last Resort stated yesterday, on July 16th, that there are no legal barriers to using Sarco in Switzerland, and this portable device is expected to be used in Switzerland for the first time – likely within the next few months.

The Sarco capsule was first unveiled in 2019, designed to assist patients seeking euthanasia by allowing them to lie down inside and release nitrogen gas with the push of a button.

Before pressing the desired button, the patient is asked questions about the action they intend to perform.

Once the process of releasing nitrogen gas begins, the system initially disorients the patient, immediately inducing a deep coma and resulting in death within a maximum of 30 seconds, all autonomously and without medical supervision.

Agence France-Presse reported, citing Florian Wilts, CEO of Last Resort:“Since we actually have people in line who are requesting the use of Sarco, it is likely to happen soon.”

Meanwhile, the introduction of the Sarco capsule in Switzerland raises profound ethical and legal questions about the boundaries of end-of-life choices and the role of medical and legal oversight in such decisions. As this technology progresses, it underscores the necessity for careful regulation and consideration of the implications for individuals seeking a dignified end to life.
