RFK Jr. issues apology for Trump phone call leak

(MENAFN) United States presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has issued an apology following the unauthorized release of a video recording of a recent phone conversation with his Republican rival, Donald Trump. In the call, which took place on Sunday, trump sought RFK Jr.’s endorsement and expressed shared concerns regarding childhood vaccinations.

The video was briefly shared on social media platform X by Bobby Kennedy III, RFK Jr.'s son, but was deleted shortly after posting. Bobby Kennedy felt that such discussions should be conducted publicly, leading to the initial leak. During the call, Trump remarked on the childhood vaccination program in the United States, stating that “clearly something’s wrong” with it.

Trump criticized the current vaccination approach, saying, “I want to do small doses,” and expressed concerns about the number of vaccines administered to children. He described the regimen as excessive, likening it to a program designed for a horse rather than a small child. Trump further noted a troubling trend he observed in children post-vaccination, suggesting that it might have significant impacts.

Kennedy Jr. has been vocal about his opposition to childhood vaccinations long before the Covid-19 pandemic, while Trump, whose administration supported the development of Covid vaccines, has also shared controversial views on the topic. In a statement made in 2007, Trump suggested that the vaccine schedule could be linked to autism, stating, “My theory is the shots are responsible for causing autism. We’re giving these massive injections at one time, and I really think it does something to the children.”

The incident raises questions about the intersection of politics and public health, highlighting the contentious nature of vaccination debates in the current political landscape. As both candidates navigate their positions, the implications of their statements may resonate deeply with their respective supporters and the broader electorate.
