Indonesian leader visits UAE, strengthening 47 years of bilateral cooperation

(MENAFN) Indonesian President Joko Widodo's visit to the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday marks a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between Abu Dhabi and Jakarta, solidifying a 47-year journey of cooperation and friendship between the two nations. The visit is poised to bolster their partnership across various sectors, with a particular focus on nuclear energy, investment, the financial sector, and other pivotal areas.

The historical context of bilateral ties includes Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's landmark visit to Indonesia in May 1990, which greatly influenced the trajectory of relations. Reflecting on this legacy, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the substantial progress achieved over nearly five decades. He highlighted robust cooperation in energy, renewable energy, tourism, aviation, agriculture, food security, infrastructure, transportation, health, artificial intelligence, education, and culture.

Underpinning this partnership are collaborative efforts within multilateral frameworks, including the G20 where Indonesia held the presidency in 2022 and India in 2023. Cooperation extended to supporting pandemic response initiatives, with Indonesia backing the UAE's accession to the ASEAN Association as a sectoral dialogue partner. This ongoing collaboration underscores a shared commitment to enhancing mutual prosperity and fostering regional stability.
