Safadi, Belgian Counterpart Discuss Israeli Aggression On Gaza


(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday met with Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib

During the meeting, the two top diplomats condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression against Gaza and stressed the urgent need for a genuine effort towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on June 4, 1967, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital based on the two-state solution, which they envisioned as the only path towards a comprehensive and lasting peace, security, and stability in the region.

Safadi commended Belgium for its stance and role, particularly during its Presidency of the European Union, in advocating for a durable ceasefire and ensuring the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid throughout Gaza, as well as reiterating that the two-state solution is the sole viable path to peace.

Safadi also warned against continued Israeli aggression against Gaza and unilateral actions that undermine the peace process, such as settlement expansion, settler terrorist acts and land confiscation.

He highlighted the danger of the war spilling over into Lebanon,
calling on the international community to have an active role in stopping Israel's massacres against Palestinians in Gaza, citing recent atrocities in the Khan Younis' Mawasi region and the Nuseirat refugee camp.

The meeting also touched on bilateral relations between both kingdoms, with both ministers expressing their commitment to enhancing cooperation in various fields.

Lahbib reiterated Belgium's commitment to a permanent ceasefire and the implementation of the two-state solution.

She stressed the importance of strengthening relations with Jordan and praised its role as a stabilising force in the region.
