Some Badakhshan Historic Sites Direly Need Restoration

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): The Information and Culture Department of northeastern Badakhshan province has evaluated 10 historical sites located along the Silk Road route and found them on the verge of collapse.
Eng. Zabihullah Amiri, director of the department, said he travelled to the Pamir-i-Kochak and assessed historical sites in Warduj, Ishkashim, Wakhan and Pamir districts.
During the trip, he visited a caravanserai in Markan village of Warduj district, the tomb of Ras
Mulk, Ismailia Mosque in Khandod Wakhan area, a fort and Zahir Shah's wooden palace in Qala-i-Panjah, Belhasi caravan tomb.
“These historical monuments are in serious need of restoration and they are on the verge of collapse,” he added.
He said the historic bridge (bricks bridge) of Faizabad City also needed restoration and asked the leadership of the Ministry of Information and Culture to pay attention to its reconstruction.
Amiri held a meeting with district chief of Wakhan, the commander of border patrol in Qala-i-Panjah and some other border forces and asked them to protect and maintain the historical and ancient monuments of Afghanistan and prevent smuggling of artifacts.
Meanwhile, Ustad Abdul Wahid, a resident of Wakhan district, said historical sites in the district were not in good condition for being exposed to natural disasters.
“If the government does not pay serious attention, it may collapse”.
He urged the Islamic Emirate to restore monuments teetering on the verge of collapse in order to preserve the history.
