Uzbekistan: Afghanistan Is No Longer A Priority For The International Community

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Uzbekistan, expressed concern about the current situation in Afghanistan, stating that the country has been marginalized from the global community's focus due to conflicts occurring in other parts of the world.

Speaking at a Turkic Council (Turkic States Cooperation Council) meeting in Shusha held on Saturday, July 6th, Mr. Mirziyoyev called for increased coordination to aid Afghanistan. According to him,“The situation in Afghanistan, where millions of Turks live, has been marginalized from the global community's focus.”

The President of Uzbekistan emphasized continuing support for the“people of Afghanistan” and claimed that freeing Afghanistan's financial reserves would improve the situation there.

The assertion that the current Taliban regime lacks international recognition is accurate, as many countries and international organizations have withheld recognition due to concerns over the Taliban's governance, human rights record, and inclusivity.

This lack of recognition raises legitimate questions about the legitimacy and stability of the regime, particularly in managing and safeguarding Afghanistan's financial assets.

Furthermore, the concern over transparency regarding the safety of Afghanistan's financial reserves is well-founded. Without a recognized government in place and amid ongoing conflict and instability, there is a risk that released funds could be misused, diverted, or fall into the wrong hands.

The international community, including neighboring countries and global financial institutions, must exercise caution and demand rigorous safeguards before deciding to release Afghanistan's financial reserves.

Neighboring countries of Afghanistan express deep concerns, some of which were raised during the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states' leaders.

The widespread absence of governance in Afghanistan and threats posed by terrorism, drug trafficking, and illegal migration are among the primary concerns of neighboring countries regarding Afghanistan.

The statements from President Mirziyoyev underscore the urgency and complexity of the situation in Afghanistan, highlighting the need for concerted international efforts to address the region's humanitarian and security challenges.

The issues of governance, terrorism, and illicit activities resonate deeply with neighboring countries, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation and support mechanisms to stabilize Afghanistan and mitigate the broader impacts on regional stability and security.
