Kremlin releases caution over savage Crimea assault

(MENAFN) The Kremlin has strongly condemned a missile attack on Sevastopol in Crimea, attributing responsibility to Ukraine and its purported backers in the United States. Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Kremlin, labeled the attack as "absolutely barbaric" during a press briefing, where he asserted Russia's certainty about the perpetrators behind the deadly strike.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday and involved United States-supplied ATACMS missiles, resulted in casualties including two children and over 150 injuries, according to local authorities. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that despite intercepting four of the missiles, one deviated from its path and detonated over a crowded Black Sea beach, causing widespread civilian harm from cluster munition fragments.

Peskov's statements underscored Moscow's anger and accusations towards Washington, hinting at potential retaliatory actions for what Russia perceives as direct United States involvement in facilitating attacks on Russian civilians. He called on European and American authorities to justify their roles in supplying advanced weaponry to Ukraine, alleging that such actions directly contribute to endangering Russian lives.

The Kremlin's response aligns with President Vladimir Putin's previous warnings about potential consequences for nations supporting Ukraine militarily. Moscow has vehemently criticized the United States for allegedly orchestrating attacks through Ukrainian forces, citing intelligence cooperation between American specialists and Ukrainian troops as evidence of complicity in what Russia terms a "terrorist missile attack."

As tensions escalate over the Crimea incident, diplomatic exchanges between Russia and Western nations are expected to intensify, with implications for regional stability and international relations. The situation remains fluid, with Moscow signaling readiness to react decisively to what it perceives as threats to its national security and civilian population.
