Serbian admirers chant ‘Vladmir Putin’ at Euro 2024

(MENAFN) During the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany, a group of Serbian fans were filmed chanting "Vladimir Putin!" and displaying a Russian national flag, alongside their own national symbols. This incident follows the Union of European football Associations (UEFA) banning Russian flags at the Ukraine-Romania match on Monday, after the tricolor was previously seen at the Germany-Scotland and Serbia-England games.

The video circulating on social media shows Serbian fans, dressed in national jerseys, outside a church in Gelsenkirchen chanting the Russian president's name. They waved the Russian presidential flag, the Serbian national flag, and the flag of Republika Srpska, an ethnic Serb region in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

UEFA allows national flags at the championship but has requested fans to "leave all other flags at home." German authorities are particularly vigilant about Russian, Israeli, and Palestinian flags. The Russian national team has been banned from UEFA events since the start of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022.
