Trump declares end to endless payments to Zelensky

(MENAFN) Former United States President Donald trump has voiced staunch opposition to ongoing financial aid to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, asserting during a speech at 'The People’s Convention' in Michigan that such payments amount to unsustainable commitments. Trump criticized Zelensky as a remarkably effective negotiator, claiming the Ukrainian leader consistently secures large sums of money from Western nations during his visits abroad.

In his address, Trump pointed out recent developments where the United States and other G7 countries announced a USD50 billion loan for Ukraine, supplemented by frozen Russian assets estimated at around USD300 billion. Trump's remarks highlighted a perceived cycle of financial requests from Zelensky, suggesting that every round of aid is followed by renewed appeals for additional funding and military support.

Despite Zelensky's lobbying efforts in Washington for a USD61 billion military aid package, Trump assured his supporters that if re-elected, he would swiftly resolve the situation in Ukraine upon assuming office. He reiterated his belief that under his presidency, the conflict in Ukraine would not have transpired, echoing sentiments he has expressed consistently since 2022.

Trump's comments underscore ongoing debates within US political circles regarding foreign aid distribution and international commitments, particularly amidst global tensions and financial constraints. His stance resonates with critics of extensive financial support to Ukraine, emphasizing a policy approach that prioritizes renegotiation and potential reevaluation of existing international aid agreements, contingent upon future electoral outcomes.
