IRICA reports over 2M cellphones imported to Iran in Q1


(MENAFN) According to a report from an Iranian news agency, the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) has announced that during the initial three months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20 to June 20), a total of 2,049,279 cellphone handsets were imported into the country. These imports were valued at USD527.509 million.

During this period, the Iranian news agency's report highlights that out of the total 2,049,279 cellphone handsets imported into the country, a significant majority—which is more than 1,950,483 units—entered through commercial channels. Additionally, 98,976 cellphone handsets were reported to have been brought into Iran by passengers during the same timeframe.

According to IRICA's latest data, the quantity of cell phones imported during this period saw a notable 27 percent decrease in volume, while their total declared value experienced an 11 percent reduction compared to previous periods.

Back on December 30, the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) disclosed that during the initial nine months of the year, which began in March 2023, over 10 million cellphone handsets were imported into the country. These imports were valued at approximately USD2.2 billion, indicating a significant influx of mobile devices during that period.
