UK`s Cameron announces need to go after everything that is Russian

(MENAFN) During a press conference in London, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron emphasized the necessity for the West to demonstrate unwavering solidarity with Ukraine by imposing extensive sanctions on all aspects of Russian activities. Speaking as the United Kingdom government announced fresh sanctions against Russia, Cameron underscored the resolve to target every facet of Russian influence and resources.
"We will show [Russian President Vladimir] Putin that we are fully behind Ukraine: we will pursue financial assets, oil supplies, gas shipments, and all forms of trade that support the Russian war effort. Our goal is to compel Putin to recognize the consequences of his actions," Cameron stated in an interview published by the Italian daily Corriere della Sera on Friday.
Cameron further outlined the UK's global strategy to identify and penalize companies worldwide engaged in transactions with Russia. He highlighted efforts to sanction firms across various countries, including China, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, and Israel, suspected of providing dual-use materials to Russia.
The British foreign secretary expressed particular concern over the "shadow fleet" of tankers transporting Russian oil, which he asserted circumvents G7 price controls and Western embargoes. Leveraging its influence in the global shipping insurance sector, the United Kingdom has taken steps to blacklist all Russian vessels, impeding deliveries ranging from oil to essential goods, while attributing responsibility to Moscow.
In response to recent Ukrainian military setbacks, both the United States and the United Kingdom intensified their sanctions against Russia this week. These measures broaden the scope of targets, encompassing individuals and entities worldwide alleged to be aiding Moscow's war efforts. The coordinated sanctions underscore Western commitment to support Ukraine and curtail Russian actions deemed detrimental to international peace and stability.
