Moscow says globe waking up to Ukraine

(MENAFN) Moscow's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, has highlighted a discernible shift in global attitudes towards the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, describing it as a move towards a more reasoned perspective. In an interview with RIA Novosti news agency, Nebenzia emphasized the impact of Russian diplomatic efforts at the United Nations, which he claims have effectively exposed what he terms as the "hypocrisy and double standards" of the United States and its allies concerning the Ukraine crisis.

Nebenzia pointed out that these efforts have contributed to a growing international consensus that reflects a sober assessment of the situation unfolding in Ukraine. He suggested that Western anti-Russian narratives are facing increased scrutiny within the United Nations, especially when juxtaposed against broader global issues that are deemed more pressing for the developing world.

The Russian envoy's remarks come ahead of a Swiss-hosted peace conference on Ukraine, scheduled to convene at the Burgenstock Resort near Lucerne. Despite Switzerland's invitations to representatives from 160 states and international organizations, the attendance numbers have reportedly decreased, with Nebenzia alleging that Western pressures compelled Global South countries to attend as mere "extras" rather than as genuine participants.

The conference, initiated by Swiss authorities and expected to discuss proposals championed by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, has notably excluded Russia from its guest list. Nebenzia's commentary underscores Russia's ongoing diplomatic efforts to reshape international narratives surrounding the conflict, positioning itself against what it perceives as biased Western influences on global opinion regarding Ukraine.
