Ukraine's Parliament Allows Local Councils To Finance Ukrainian Forces

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Verkhovna Rada has passed a law that allows local self-government bodies to finance units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces during martial law.

MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak announced this on the Telegram messaging app, Ukrinform reports.

According to the lawmaker, 303 MPs supported Bill No. 9559d at second reading.

The document expands the powers of local self-government bodies to provide financial support to the security and defense sector during martial law or a state of emergency and regulates the procedure for holding their remote meetings.

The law provides for the expansion of the powers of the executive bodies of village, settlement, and city councils for the construction, arrangement, and maintenance of engineering, technical and fortification structures.

The powers to approve local budgets, make changes to them, and approve social-economic and cultural development programs and target programs were also expanded.

In addition, local councils, executive bodies of village, settlement, city councils and standing deputy commissions will be able to hold remote meetings via videoconference if necessary.

In addition, the law improves the mechanism for appointing a village, settlement, or city head to the position of head of the respective military administration of a settlement (settlements).
