Eid-Al-Azha Being Celebrated Today

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- Kashmir is celebrating Eid-al-Azha with great religious fervour and enthusiasm today to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S).
The day will dawn with special prayers in mosques and Eidgahs, with biggest congregations expected at Jamia Masjid Srinagar and at Hazratbal Shrine on the banks of Dal Lake.

As per the Islamic teachings, on this Eid, which is being celebrated on the 10th of the Islamic calendars last month, Zil-Hijjah, a spiritual Muslim
offers
a goat or sheep as a sacrificial animal while a calf will suffice for the vow of seven Muslims.
Allah ordered Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son Ismail. When the blindfolded father moved the blade on his son's throat to carry out the divine command, an animal from heaven replaced Ismail ( AS).
It is to celebrate the absolute submission of Prophet Ibrahim to Allah's command and the saving of Ismail's life that Muslims commemorate the day with symbolic sacrifices.

The Muslims, as per Islamic teachings, will start performing the act of sacrificing animals following the congregational Eid prayers.
Markets on Saturday wore a festive look amid rush of shoppers hitting the streets and Eidgahs to purchase sacrificial animals. Shops were decorated with colorful lights and stalls were overflowing with festive goods and bakeries.
From traditional clothing to sweets and other delicacies, there was a palpable excitement in the air as people tried to complete their holiday preparations. In both civil lines and as well as historic downtown Srinagar, roads were clogged with vehicles moving at a snail's pace due to the massive influx of shoppers. The main commercial areas including Lal Chowk, Nowhatta and Residency Road saw heavy traffic jam.A local resident Sajad Ahmad expressed his excitement, saying Eidazha is a special occasion for Muslims.
“It's wonderful to see the city so vibrant and alive. Despite the traffic, the joy of preparing for the festival makes it all worthwhile,” he said, another shopper Tariq Ahmed, shared his thoughts while buying a sacrificial goat.“This festival is about sacrifice and sharing with those in need. Every year, we look forward to this time when we can come together as a community and celebrate,” he added.
President, LG Greets People On Eid
President Droupadi Murmu greeted people on Sunday on the eve of EidAzha and asked all to work together for the nation's development and welfare.
The festival is a symbol of renunciation and sacrifice and gives the message of love, brotherhood and social harmony, she said.
“This festival inspires us for selfless service to humanity,” the president said.
“On this occasion, let us take a pledge to work together for the development and welfare of our nation,” Murmu said.
The president has extended greetings on the occasion of EidAzha“to all fellow citizens and Indians abroad, especially our Muslim brothers and sisters”, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique read.
The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, also
extended his heartiest greetings and best wishes to the people on the eve of EidZuha.
In a message, the LG said,“Heartiest greetings and best wishes to all on the auspicious occasion of EidZuha. The sacred festival of EidZuha is a symbol of selfless sacrifice and sharing. Let us, on this occasion, reaffirm our resolve to further strengthen the spirit of brotherhood and unity. May EidZuha bring peace, prosperity and joy for everyone”.
DGP Swain Extends Eid Greetings
Director General of Police (DGP), J&K, R R Swain extended heartfelt greetings to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir, wishing them peace, prosperity, and happiness.
“Eid is a time of togetherness, reflection, and compassion. Let us celebrate this day with a renewed commitment to unity and harmony,” he said.
DGP Swain said that as we come together with our families and communities, let's also remember the values of kindness, charity, and gratitude that Eid embodies.”
In his message, DGP Swain also took a moment to honor those who have sacrificed their lives for peace and harmony in the region.
“Their courage and dedication inspire us to continue working towards a safer and more peaceful Jammu and Kashmir,” he stated.
He expressed deep gratitude to the security forces and police personnel for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and security.“Your dedication ensures that we can all celebrate this festival in safety and joy,” said Swain.
“May the blessings of Eid fill our lives with joy, our hearts with love, and our homes with peace. Eid Mubarak to all!” he concluded.
