The Palestinian presidency welcomed the UN Security Council's adoption of a draft resolution submitted by the United States supporting a proposal by US President Joe Biden for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Presidency considered, in a statement, the adoption of this resolution as a step in the right direction to stop the ongoing war of genocide in Gaza, calling on everyone to assume their responsibilities for its implementation.

The decision is consistent with the Presidency's demands for an immediate halt to the Israeli aggression, the withdrawal of the occupation forces from the entire Gaza Strip, the entry of aid, the prevention of displacement, and that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the territory of the State of Palestine, the statement noted.

The statement stressed that the Security Councils affirmation in its resolution of its firm commitment to the vision of a two-state solution, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, requires working seriously towards implementing the political solution that leads to ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state, in accordance with international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
